International Co-authorship Support: SNU OPEN WORLD (SOW)
1. Objective
· As the importance of international collaborative research becomes more prominent domestically and internationally, this program aims to activate and support such collaborations, fostering seeds for future international cooperation.
· Through bidirectional support (IN & OUT bound) for international collaborative research, the program seeks to facilitate the sharing of resources and knowledge among leading researchers, thereby achieving breakthrough research outcomes.
2. Key Program Details
A. Type 1: Support for Inviting International Scholars for Collaborative Research
○ Purpose:To enhance research quality by providing opportunities for international collaborative research with distinguished foreign scholars.
○ Eligibility:
· Applicant: Full-time faculty, endowment faculty, and HK faculty at SNU who are able to conduct collaborative research with invited international scholars.
※ Faculty who have violated research integrity policies or failed to submit final reports for previously supported projects are ineligible.
· Invited Scholar: Faculty or researchers from foreign universities or institutions who are capable of conducting collaborative research with SNU faculty.
○ Number of Invitees: One scholar per research project (up to 5 projects will be selected).
○ Duration:
· Project period: June 1, 2024 – February 28, 2025
· Research period: 6 months within the project period (no extensions).
· Invitation period: Minimum 1 month, maximum 6 months within the research period.
○ Support:
· Up to 20M KRW for round-trip airfare (economy class) and living expenses (maximum 5M KRW per month).
· Publication fees (including open access fees) will be reimbursed for papers published within 1 to 3 years after the research project ends.
○ Application Process:
· Application Deadline: April 5, 2024
· Notification of Selection: April 22, 2024
· Applications should be submitted to the Research Policy Division via the applicant’s college after internal review.
* Evaluation criteria and committee will be determined by the head of the research office.
B. Type 2: Support for Faculty on Sabbatical for International Collaborative Research
○ Purpose: To support the publication of high-impact research outputs by providing financial support for publication fees (including open access fees) to faculty who conducted international collaborative research during their sabbatical.
○ Eligibility: Faculty who have conducted international collaborative research with scholars from their host institution during their sabbatical abroad (after March 1, 2022) and plan to publish the research results in domestic or international academic journals.
○ Support: Reimbursement of publication fees (including open access fees) within the allocated budget.
○ Conditions: The applicant must be listed as the first or corresponding author, and the international collaborator must be listed as a co-author. The applicant’s affiliation must be stated as "Seoul National University" in the publication.
○ Application Timeline: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until January 31, 2025.
Applications should be submitted to the Research Policy Division through the applicant’s college with all necessary documents.
3. Additional Information
○ If research is interrupted due to non-compliance, delayed entry/exit, premature return, or legal violations in the host country, the full amount of the support must be refunded.
○ If false information is provided (for example, if no actual collaborative research was conducted despite receiving support), the full amount of the support must be refunded, and future participation in research support programs may be restricted.
○ Double funding from other sources, such as the National Research Foundation or other faculty research support programs, for the same items (e.g., airfare, living expenses, publication fees) is prohibited. In cases of double funding, the full amount of the SOW support must be refunded
