Academic Activities Support
Faculty Academic Activity Expenses
1. Objective
A. To establish a foundation for international collaborative research through the promotion of international academic exchange.
B. To promote academic development by facilitating collaborative and joint research between distinguished SNU researchers and leading international researchers.
2. Key Program Details
A. International Conference Attendance Expenses
(1) Eligibility: Full-time, endowment, and HK faculty (excluding faculty on leave or secondment).
(2) Support Criteria:
- Participation in academic conferences held abroad with participants from at least three countries (including Korea) as a presenter, chair, or executive committee member.
※If more than one professor applies for the same paper, only one will be supported.
- Conferences held between March 1 and February 28 of the following year.
(3) Support Details:
- Up to 4M KRW per person per year for airfare, accommodation, and registration fees, with no limit on the number of applications.
- Accommodation expenses are calculated based on the Seoul National University Travel Expense Regulations, using a discounted rate (80% of the actual expense limit). Expenses related to unofficial conference activities (e.g., Welcome Receptions or tourism) are excluded.
(4) Application Process and Required Documents:
- Application Period: Submit a formal request through the department or graduate school to the Research Support Division at least 14 days before the conference.
- Required Documents: Application form for international academic conference participation expenses, conference program, copy of the presentation paper, and self-check confirmation for predatory conferences.
※ Documentation confirming participation from at least three countries is mandatory.
(5) Submission of Final Report: Submit the final report within one month after the conference (failure to submit may result in future application restrictions).
B. Publication Costs in Leading Academic Journals
(1) Eligibility: Full-time, endowment, and HK faculty (excluding faculty on leave, but seconded faculty are eligible).
(2) Support Criteria:
- Publication fees, Open Access costs, translation fees, language editing fees, and submission fees for papers published or accepted in distinguished domestic and international journals* where the applicant is the first author or corresponding author.
*Distinguished journals: SCI(E), SSCI, A&HCI, SCOPUS.
- Support for international conference proceedings and presentation fees at distinguished international academic conferences* (only for conferences recognized by the NRF in the field of computer science).
- The author’s affiliation must be listed as "Seoul National University.“
- Support is provided for expenses incurred between February 1 and January 31 of the following year.
(3) Support Details:
- Up to 5M KRW per person per year for publication fees, Open Access costs, translation fees, language editing fees, submission fees, international conference proceedings, and presentation fees.
※ For international co-authored papers (including authors affiliated with foreign institutions), the support is increased to a maximum of 7M KRW per person (an additional 2M KRW).
※ Translation and language editing fees for the same paper are limited to one request.
(4) Application Process and Required Documents:
- Application Period: Rolling submissions (deadline: early February).
- Application Method: Submit the application form and required documents to the department or research institute’s administrative office.

C. Artistic and Music Performance and Exhibition Expenses
(1) Eligibility: Full-time faculty from the College of Fine Arts and College of Music (excluding faculty on leave or secondment).
(2) Support Criteria: Research outputs recognized under faculty evaluation regulations, equivalent to a score of 100 points.
(3) Support Details:
- Up to 4M KRW per person per year.
- College of Music: Venue rental fees, instrument rental and tuning fees, sound, lighting, recording, and audio-visual equipment rental fees.
- College of Fine Arts: Space rental fees, equipment purchase and usage fees (including transportation and installation of artworks), and catalog production costs.
(4) Application Process and Required Documents:
- Eligible Period: Performances and exhibitions held between February 1 and January 31 of the following year.
- Application Period: Rolling submissions (deadline: early February).
- Application Method: Submit the application form and required documents to the department or research institute’s administrative office.
- Required Documents: Application form for performance/exhibition support, invoice, receipts, and evidence of the event (e.g., brochure).
D. Conference Hosting Expenses(International and Domestic)
(1) Eligibility: Full-time, endowment, and HK faculty who are organizing academic conferences at SNU (excluding faculty on leave or secondment).
(2) Support Criteria:
- International: Academic conferences, exhibitions, or performances where scholars from at least two countries (including Korea) participate as presenters, discussants, or session chairs.
- Domestic: Academic conferences, exhibitions, or performances held on campus, where scholars from at least two different academic divisions* participate, with at least three presenters, discussants, or session chairs from each division.
*Divisions:Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Arts and Physical Education, Medicine.
(3) Support Details:
- Type I (International, Online/Offline, Sole Organizer): Up to 8M KRW per hosting institution.
- Type II (International, Online/Offline, Co-Organizer): Up to 4M KRW per hosting institution.
-Type III (Domestic, Online/Offline, Sole Organizer): Up to 3M KRW per hosting institution.
* Support for domestic offline events is limited to those held on campus.
(4) Application Process and Required Documents
- Application Period:
· For events held between March 1 and August 31: Submit by the end of April.
· For events held between September 1 and February 28 of the following year: Submit by the end of October.
- Application Method: Submit the application form and required documents to the department or research institute’s administrative office.
- Required Documents:
· Application form for event hosting expenses,
· Event plan,
· List of expected participants,
· Event expense utilization plan.
(5) Submission of Final Report: Submit the final report within one month after the event (failure to submit may result in future application restrictions).
E. Cost for Inviting Prestigious Foreign Scholars
(1) Eligibility: Full-time, endowment, and HK faculty inviting foreign scholars for academic consultation or lectures (excluding faculty on leave or secondment).
(2) Support Criteria: One invitation per 7 full-time or endowment faculty members per department per year.
(3) Support Details: Up to 3M KRW per invited scholar for airfare, accommodation (300,000 KRW/day), lecture fees, and other expenses.
(4) Application Process and Required Documents
- Application Period:
· For invitations between March 1 and August 31: Submit by the end of April.
· For invitations between September 1 and February 28 of the following year: Submit by the end of October.
- Application Method: Submit the application form and required documents to the department or research institute's administrative office.
- Required Documents:
· Application form for foreign scholar invitation expenses,
· Invitation utilization plan,
· Copy of the invitation acceptance letter.
(5) Submission of Final Report: Submit the final report within one month after the event (failure to submit may result in future application restrictions).

Overseas Research Fellowship Support for Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty
1. Objective
To support overseas research fellowships for faculty in the humanities and social sciences, thereby promoting academic exchange and enhancing international research capabilities.
2. Key Program Details
A. Eligibility: Faculty in the humanities and social sciences who are selected for a sabbatical and have received approval for overseas research for the academic year.
B. Funding Amount
- 8M KRW per person for 1 year, or 4M KRW per person for 6 months.
- If the fellowship period is set to a duration other than 1 year or 6 months due to individual circumstances, the support will be prorated accordingly.
C. Fellowship Period: 1 year or 6 months.
D. Application Process and Required Documents
(1) Announcement: Announced via official letter in December each year, with applications due by the end of January and selections made by the end of February.
(2) Required Documents:
- For university/college recommendation: Institution’s recommendation form [Form 1], faculty research plan [Form 2], and meeting minutes of the faculty council or personnel committee.
- For funding application: Funding application form [Form 1], copy of the invitation letter, copy of personal bank account, and copy of the approval letter for overseas research from the Office of Academic Affairs.
E. Final Report
(1) Required Documents: Submit the final report [Form 4] and proof of entry and exit to the Research Support Division.
(2) Submission Deadline: Final report: Within 1 month after the end of the fellowship period.
